Chips is a crazy ride on which you can get from any cartoon but praticamente impossibile scendere. Si fugge, si pedala, ci si nasconde e alla fine si è stanchi ma felici. Se Roberto la Forgia fosse negli States a quest’ora i suoi characters sarebbero sulle felpe e i cappellini di tutti i teenagers americani e la Warner starebbe producendo il loro secondo lungometraggio. Per fortuna questo non accade perché altrimenti Roberto spenderebbe tutto in patatine o qualsiasi altra sostanza che colmi momentaneamente il pozzo senza fondo della sua fantasia.

Quando la mano morta del fumetto esce dal coma sgranchisce le falangi in giochi grafici di prestidigitazione ma tira anche cazzotti.
Con uno stile staminale che vagabonda tra il Pericoli dei ’70, Miguel Pavia, Glaser e l’osservazione dal vero Pasquale La Forgia esordisce sulla scena del fumetto italiano con un colpo di pistola. E’ un colpo che però non uccide ma, al contrario, prova a resuscitare un nobile “genere” narrativo sia letterario che cinematografico ma che negli anni ’70-‘80 trovò nel fumetto, per flessibilità, rapidità e popolarità dello strumento (marxianamente: per la povertà dei mezzi di produzione), il suo spazio ideale.
Per la verità si trattò di una tendenza soprattutto francese (Lauzier e Bretecher) e che in Italia rappresentarono brevemente (tra i pochi) il citato Pericoli con Pirella e il fiacco Staino.
Parlo della short -story di critica politica e di costume (come separarle?), critica sempre “a tesi” e bozzettistica ma proprio per questo capace di penetrazione storica e psicologica acuminata come il caso del bel debutto di Pasquale La Forgia che lascia ben sperare anche in una riscossa del genere.
