Le sue sono considerazioni di un uomo che è stato per molti anni a contatto con la Camorra, e che conosce bene quelli che sono i loro interessi economici, finanziari e politici.

Quella di Cantone è una descrizione impietosa di due Italie. Due realtà totalmente diverse, sul piano del welfare, dei servizi, della vivibilità. “La Camorra ha cambiato il tessuto sociale, e continua ad incidere sull’applicazione delle regole. La mafia non si fa anti-stato. Il terrorismo lo si poteva considerare tale. Al contrario la mafia si insinua nello stato. Le istituzioni per loro non sono da mettere in discussione”. E la prova è lo stesso Cantone a darla, raccontando due episodi avvenuti durante le sue indagini sul clan dei Casalesi. I protagonisti sono Michele Zagaria, ancora latitante e Francesco Bidognetti, detto “Cicciotto ‘e mezzanotte”, condannato all’ergastolo. Entrambi hanno riferito una frase al pm Cantone: “Io, però, non ho mai torto un capello a un uomo delle istituzioni”. Secondo Cantone per battere le mafie e riuscire a squarciare questo rapporto diretto con le istituzioni è necessario l’impegno di tutti. Non serve la semplice repressione. Basti pensare alla grande lotta contro la mafia durante il fascismo. Una vera e propria guerra, che portò anche al cambiamento del nome di Casal di Principe. Fu chiamata Albanova, in segno di novità, di una nuova via da seguire. Così non fu. La Camorra si è infatti riorganizzata.
